Mount Vernon Estate Salutes Veterans, Holiday Craft Fair, and an Art Exhibit This Week

The week ahead in West End Alexandria.

Monday is Veterans Day.

In honor of that, the Mount Vernon Estate is giving free admission to all active duty, former, or retired military personnel Monday. Special events are planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. See their website for details

If you’re interested in transportation issues in Fairfax County, there’s a public meeting this week for you. Transportation officials are hosting public dialog sessions Tuesday and Wednesday. You can learn about unfunded transportation projects for the county and more. The first meeting is at 7 p.m. at Tuesday at the Fairfax County Government Center on 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. The second meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Edge Elementary School on 1501 Becontree Lane in Reston.

The Fourth Annual Handmade Holiday Craft Fair is this weekend at T.C. Williams High School. The fair is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school on 3330 King St. The fair raises money for Hearts and Hands, an organization that builds schools and promotes economic improvements in Kenya and Tanzania, according to their Facebook page. 

The Lorton Community Action Center is hosting their Service Stroll from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at the Workhouse Arts Center on 9601 Ox Road in Lorton. Take a walk at the arts center then drop in for the Home for Dinner Exhibition, which features the work of local elementary school students. Their works detail what “home for dinner” meets for them, according to the LCAC’s website. Register online.
