Many businesses are staying put in Duke Realty Corp.’s office space in the Mark Center community of West end Alexandria. Duke Realty’s Washington, DC, office completed 252,811 square feet in leases during the first quarter of 2013, as businesses committed to new leases, renewals and space expansions in the company’s office and industrial properties in the metro area. Mark Center office activity included: Duke Realty currently manages and leases more than 3.5 million square feet of industrial and office properties and serves more than 150 tenants in the Washington metropolitan region.

Thanks to a reallocation of some funds and savings on two big Fairfax County projects , the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has identified about $11 million to complete planned improvements to pedestrian and road projects across the county. “The new projects will enhance safety, reduce bottlenecks and improve bike and pedestrian opportunities,” Board Chairman Sharon Bulova said in a statement. The Virginia Department of Transportation will be installing concrete medians and doing drain work in the area.
Virginia Megaprojects released the following information about the closure of a turn lane from westbound Seminary Road onto Mark Center Avenue. The Virginia Department of Transportation will be constructing concrete medians and installing storm drains in the area. The lane closure will start this Monday, Jan. 14 and continue through next weekend. See the attached map to see the lane that will close and VDOT's suggested detour. Local residents voiced opposition to escalating rents, displacement under Alexandria’s plan for Beauregard redevelopment on Human Rights Day.
Dozens of Beauregard-area residents marched in solidarity Monday night to protest plans by the city and developer JBG Companies to demolish their homes as part of efforts to revitalize the corridor. The protesters, organized by the Beauregard Tenants Association and Arlandria-based Tenants and Workers United, held the candlelight vigil and short march from the William Ramsay Recreation Center to the corner of Sanger Avenue and Beauregard Street on Human Rights Day, celebrated globally Dec. 10. Love all the development that is taking place in the area. How about more pedestrian improvement in the Baileys Xroads area so residents can walk to Best Buy and all the shops and restaurants in the area.
