About Those Blasts and Rumbling You're Hearing...

Police have received several calls about noises as far away as Alexandria.

There may be more than one source of those blasts, booms and low rumbling noises you're hearing today. North American Explosive Services has a permit to blast through 8 p.m. Friday. There was also a blast at 1:30 p.m. at 10000 Ox Road, the Vulcan plant, according to Fairfax County Police. In addition, ordnance testing is occuring Thursday through 9 p.m. at Marine Corps Base Quantico, according to Fairfax County officials. Sometimes, the wind and clouds make sounds travel further than usual. According to the base's Facebook page, the explosive munitions training started early Wednesday.
