The death of Lynhaven resident Julian Dawkins has been ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner following the results of an autopsy, Alexandria police said Thursday evening. • See: Alexandria Police ID Victim in Lynhaven Shooting Dawkins, 22, was shot early Wednesday following a confrontation with off-duty Arlington County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Patterson, police said. The three men allegedly got away with money, jewelry and electronics but no one was injured.
Fairfax County Police are looking for three men they say robbed two men in an Alexandria home Wednesday morning near the Skyline Mall. According to a press release, a 24-year-old Maryland man was awaken by three men – two of them armed with handguns – around 2 a.m. Wednesday who demanded money. An undisclosed amount of money was taken along with some jewelry and electronics. Police did not say in the release how the men gained entrance into the home. The two men inside the home in the 3700 block of North Rosser Street, the second a 45-year-old man, were not injured. Police don’t believe the incident was a random crime. Police: Man implied he had a weapon.
The SunTrust Bank at 3101 Duke St. in Alexandria in the Alexandria Commons shopping center was robbed Tuesday afternoon of an undisclosed amount of money, according to Alexandria Police. A man walked into the bank at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and asked to use the restroom, said Alexandria Police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt. After coming out of the restroom he walked up to a teller and implied he had a weapon, she said. He fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect is described as a black male, about six feet tall wearing dark pants and a dark shirt, Hildebrandt said. It's the first time "in recent memory" that the bank "has been hit," she said. Kashif Bashir facing slew of charges in Feb. 27 shooting incident that wounded Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy.
The suspect in the February shooting of Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy was indicted by an Alexandria Circuit Court grand jury Monday. Kashif Bashir, 27, is facing one count of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, one count of aggravated malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The attempted capital murder charge and aggravated malicious wounding charge each carry sentences of 20 years to life. The firearm charges each carry three-year sentences. Trial dates will be chosen in the next 10 days. Bashir is being represented by the Alexandria Public Defender’s Office. One two nights, a dozen residents of one West End neighborhood reported their cars were entered and items were stolen.
More than a dozen people in the neighborhood between W. Braddock Road and King Street west of Bradlee Shopping Center said their cars were entered and cash, cell phones, sunglasses and other items were stolen, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
