'Portraits of Pop Culture' on Exhibit at Del Ray Artisans Gallery

The gallery is located at 2704 Mount Vernon Ave. in Del Ray.

"Portraits of Pop Culture" is currently on exhibit at the Del Ray Artisans gallery. The exhibition runs from Friday to March 30 at the studio, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave. in Del Ray.

Here's a bit about the show, from the Del Ray Artisans Web site: "Pop culture is so pervasive in our society that it distracts public's focus from the important issues that shape our world. The cartoonish celebrities that drive pop culture run from the profound to the profane.

"Artists have used famous people as their subjects from before da Vinci to after Warhol. What will our portraits of pop icons reveal? Do they fascinate or irritate? Curators Zade Ramsey and Gordon Frank highlight artists' most compelling cartoons, lampoons and caricatures of celebrities, politicians, and other pop figures."

Heads Up Silent Auction: Featured within this art exhibit is Heads Up, a fundraiser show for Del Ray Artisans. Del Ray Artisans members used their artistry and imagination to transform dress form heads from mannequins to works of art. These wild and crazy sculptures will be for sale by silent auction during the Portraits of Pop Culture exhibit. Proceeds go to support Del Ray Artisans exhibits.

Gallery hours at Del Ray Artisans gallery at the Nicholas A. Colasanto Center are Thursdays, noon to 6 p.m.; Fridays, noon to 9 p.m.; Saturdays, noon to 9 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 6 p.m. The gallery is free, open to the public and handicap accessible.
