Bargains for Brides, Battlefield Demos in Antietam, Tour Mount Vernon with Fido, Celebrate Diversity, Take in a Soccer Game

There are plenty of festivals this weekend and a chance to tour Mount Vernon with your pup. If you're planning a wedding, stop by the Nationwide Tour of Gowns in Dupont Circle sponsored by Brides Against Breast Cancer.

Brides Against Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit touring the country selling donated wedding gowns with the proceeds directly going toward programs and services for people who are impacted by cancer. The "Nationwide Tour of Gowns" will make a tour stop in Washington Sept. 13-14 at the Dupont Circle Hotel, 1500 New Hampshire Ave.

Music, firing demonstrations and hikes are just some of the ways to commemorate the 151st anniversary of the Battle of Antietam at Antietam National Battlefield, 5831 Dunker Church Rd., Sharpsburg, Md. The event runs Friday through Sunday and costs $4 per person or $6 per family. Call 301-432-5125 for more information.

Saturdays through Oct. 26 take the All the Presidents’ Pups walking tour of Mount Vernon. President George Washington loved dogs and you’ll hear all about it during a 1.25 mile walk with five stops. The tour begins at 10 a.m. The cost is general admission - $17 for adults - plus $5 for the tour. Free for dogs. 

The City of Alexandria is hosting the second annual Alexandria Multicultural Fest on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Four Mile Run Park and community building, 4109 Mt. Vernon Ave. Admission is free.

Learn more about Samuel Tucker during a 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. book signing and reception for the first children’s biography about the Virginia civil rights trail blazer by Nancy Noyes Silcox. The National Football League may have just charged back into our lives, but check out the other football – soccer team D.C. United plays the Los Angeles Galaxy at RFK Stadium, 2400 East Capitol St., SE, Washington. The kickoff is at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The O Street Band performs from 10 a.m. to noon at Alexandria’s Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market. Free!
