T.C. Williams football team to play first playoff game in 22 years on Friday in Lorton.

The T.C. Williams football team travels to Lorton on Friday to face South County in its first playoff game in 22 years.

Just to put the Titans’ berth into perspective, let’s look at what was happening in the world the last time the Titans reaches the postseason:

  • On Nov. 3, 1990, Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” becomes the first hip hop single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes Time” knocks it off the top of the charts a week later.
  • On Nov. 6, 1990, Democrat Jim Moran, the mayor of Alexandria, wins election to the U.S. House of Representatives, defeating longtime Republican incumbent Stan Parris. Moran has since earned re-election 10 times.
  • Home Alone” is released on Nov. 16, 1990. It stays at the top of the U.S. box office for 12 weeks. By the end of its theatrical run, it becomes the third-highest grossing film of all time.
  • Margaret Thatcher announces her resignation as British Prime Minister on Nov. 22, 1990.
  • On Nov. 29, 1990, the United Nations Security Council passes Resolution 678 demanding Iraq withdraw its forces from Kuwait by Jan. 15, 1991. Iraq does not withdraw by the deadline, authorizing the Gulf War.
  • Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, is putting the finishing touches on the first website, which launched in December 1990.

On Friday, the Titans (7-3) will seek to make amends for a 44-37 October loss to the Stations (8-2) at Parker-Gray Stadium.
