T.C. Williams football team's first playoff berth in 22 years is chronicled in Sports Illustrated video series.

The T.C. Williams High School football team’s path to its first playoff berth in 22 years was featured in an episode of SI.com’s “Underdogs” this week. The web video series chronicles inspiring stories in high school football.

The video, published Thursday, features Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille discussing the 1971 Titans team immortalized in the 2000 Disney movie “Remember the Titans” and the racial tensions in the city at the time.

Coach Dennis Randolph, assistant coach James Clarke and Titans seniors Jeremiah Clarke, Malik Carney and Kevin Perry talk about overcoming the shadow of “Remember the Titans” movie and the family atmosphere that helped propel the Titans to their first playoff berth in more than two decades.

Original Titans players Petey Jones and Steve Colantuoni are both interviewed. Colantuoni is now an executive vice principal at T.C. Williams overseeing athletics and student activities.   

Also in the video, Randolph talks of overcoming pancreatic cancer in 2011 and his decision to return to the team after he was declared cancer free.

T.C. Williams alum Alex Hampl, who is doing a journalism residency at SI.com, was the producer of the piece.

The Titans were knocked out of the playoffs in a first-round game last week against South County, falling 51-27 in Lorton. T.C. Williams finished the season 7-4.
