Alexandria is under a Winter Weather Advisory until Friday at 1 a.m. The Thursday evening forecast calls for snow and sleet before 1 a.m., then a slight chance of snow between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m, with a low around 27 degrees. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Friday should see a high of about 38 degrees.

Closings:

All Alexandria City Public Schools and offices will be closed on Friday, Feb. 14. Essential personnel should report on time.

  • Alexandria city government offices and facilities will be open as scheduled on Friday, February 14.  Unscheduled leave is permitted for employees, but emergency personnel must report as scheduled.
  • City solid waste collection (including refuse and recycling) did not occur on Thursday, February 13. Residences that normally would have received curbside recycling and trash collection services on Thursday should expect to have their materials collected Friday.
  • Federal agencies in the Washington, DC, area are OPEN under 2 hours DELAYED ARRIVAL and employees have the OPTION FOR UNSCHEDULED LEAVE OR UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK. Employees should plan to arrive for work no more than 2 hours later than they would be expected to arrive.
