Virginia General Assembly Begins Wednesday
Senators George Barker and Adam Ebbin and Delegates Charniele Herring and Rob Krupicka are heading to Richmond to represent the western part of Alexandria.
The Virginia General Assembly will convene at noon Wednesday for its 2013 session, and transportation, education and job creation are sure to be hot topics.

District 46: Charniele Herring
Del. Charniele Herring was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2009 in a special election. In December 2012, she was elected chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Virginia. She lives here in Alexandria’s west end. Herring serves on the Courts of Justice and the Science and Technology committees in the House of Delegates.

District 45: Rob Krupicka
Del. Rob Krupicka was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2012 in a special election. Previously, he served on the Alexandria City Council. This is his first session with the Virginia House of Delegates.

VIRGINIA SENATE
District 30: Adam Ebbin
Sen. Adam Ebbin was elected to the Virginia Senate in 2011 after serving eight years in the Virginia House of Delegates. Ebbin has “advanced progressive priorities, including incentives for cleaner energy, funding for mass transit improvements, an end to discrimination in state employment,” according to his official website.
Ebbin serves on the Local Government, Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources, and General Laws and Technology committees in the Virginia senate.

District 39: George Barker
Sen. George Barker was first elected to the Virginia Senate in 2007. He lives in Clifton. This session, Barker is focusing on jobs and the economy, veterans issues, education and the environment. Barker serves on the Education and Health , Rehabilitation and Social Services and General Laws and Technology committees in the Virginia senate.

The Republican Party currently holds the majority in the House of Delegates, and exactly 50 percent of the Senate. In the event of a tie in the senate, the lieutenant governor casts the tie-breaking vote.
Virginia's General Assembly is the oldest legislative body in the Western hemisphere, founded July 30, 1619, in Jamestown as the House of Burgesses.
