Metro Train Strikes Deer Near Van Dorn Street Sunday Night

Incident caused some delays on the Blue Line Sunday night.

Normal service has resumed at Van Dorn Street late Sunday, metro said in an alert sent out at 10:22 p.m.

A metro train struck a deer Sunday night near the Van Dorn Street metro stop, according to an alert sent out Sunday by metro at about 9:30 p.m.

The Van Dorn Street metro is located at 5690 Eisenhower Ave. More deer have been uprooted in the area due to work being done clearing woods near I-395 in anticipation of a ramp being built to service the new BRAC building.

Local residents have reported deer being uprooted due to the pre-construction and clearing of brush and trees, and subsequently being killed after getting hit by cars.

The metro alert message Sunday noted: "Blue Line: Expect delays to Largo due to a deer struck by a train near Van Dorn Street." Largo is the last stop on the Blue Line, in Largo, Md.
