Double SNAP Dollars at Farmers Markets

Three area farmers markets are participating in a program beginning July 20 to make shopping at the markets more financially attractive.

Three farmers markets in Alexandria are introducing this week a "double dollar" program designed to attract more food stamp beneficiaries to the markets.

SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, recipients can visit the Arcadia Mobile market in Landmark Mall, the Old Town Farmer's Market and the Four Mile run market to swipe their EBT cards and receive up to $10 in double dollar tokens to use with vendors.

The participating markets are:

Arcadia Market, 5801 Duke St., is open Thursdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May through October in the Landmark Mall parking lot.

Old Town Farmer's Market is located in front of City Hall at 301 King St., Saturdays 7 a.m. to noon, year-round.

Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market at 4109 Mount Vernon Ave. is open Sundays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May through October.
