City Government Closed Tuesday

Hurricane Sandy causing power outages, strong winds and rain.

All city of Alexandria government facilities, public schools, courts and non-emergency services are closed or canceled on Tuesday, the city announced at 5:30 p.m.

Essential employees have been told to report to work as scheduled. All trash collection services (including refuse, recycling and leaves) are suspended on Tuesday, too.

City officials are asking residents to secure any trash and containers until collection resumes, to the extent possible.
