A cemetery for the poor is in the works on a property just west of Alexandria City in Fairfax County, the Washington Post reports.

The site at 6271 Lincolnia Road will accommodate 800 grave sites and areas for ashes for people throughout the county who cannot afford burial services, the Post reports.

Fairfax County property records indicate the land is vacant and is almost 50,000 square feet in size. Fairfax County appears to have purchased the land for $310,000 from Eastwood Properties, Inc. earlier this month. It was assessed at $345,000 in 2013.

Currently, the county works with National Memorial Park in Falls Church to handle some of the burials and cremations. Hundreds of bodies in the region are not claimed by family members each year, according to the newspaper

Fairfax County planners expect there to be 10 to 15 burials per year at the new cemetery, according to planning documents. The site should meet the county's need for the next 50 years.
