Bostick’s family members told WUSA 9 the shooting happened at the end of the workday when Bostick had returned home from a moving job. The shooting occurred in the stairwell of his apartment complex. He was shot several times in the chest, according to the report.

Bostick’s death is the fifth homicide in Alexandria in 2013.

In February, 94-year-old Elmer Roehrs was murdered in his Del Ray home. Marie Maybell Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in June.

In May, Julian Dawkins was shot and killed in Lynhaven. Arlington County sheriff’s deputy Craig Patterson was arrested and charged with murder in that case. He has been denied bond twice and is awaiting trial.

In February, police shot and killed city resident Taft Sellers in a standoff on Duke Street. Earlier this month, Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Sengel said the officers involved in the shooting were acting in self-defense.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney office is currently investigating a homicide that stemmed from a Jan. 8 assault at the Envoy of Alexandria nursing home on Virginia Avenue, a police spokesperson said. A 92-year-old was killed in that incident.

Alexandria experienced a homicide-free calendar year in 2012.
