Alexandria Police Investigating Shooting Death in West End

Police currently have no suspect information in Wednesday shooting of 40-year-old man on N. Armistead Street.

Alexandria police are investigating a shooting death that occurred around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of N. Armistead Street, just north of Interstate 395 and Landmark Mall.

Police responded to a report of shots fired early Wednesday evening. Upon their arrival on N. Armistead Street, a 40-year-old male victim was located with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.

Paramedics later examined the victim and pronounced him dead on the scene.

His identity is being withheld until authorities can contact his next of kin.

No motive has been established and police have no information about a suspect. A police investigation is ongoing.

Two criminal homicides have already been recorded in Alexandria in 2013—the February murder of Elmer Roehrs in Del Ray and the May shooting of Julian Dawkins in Lynhaven.

In February, police shot and killed city resident Taft Sellers in a standoff on Duke Street.
