When the power goes out, Twitter, Facebook and your cellphone may be good ways to get emergency information. Here are suggested social media accounts and blogs to follow.

With a major thunderstorm and possible derecho forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday, safety and preparedness should be top of mind for Northern Virginia residents.
