America's Adopt a Soldier Commonwealth Day of Service

On January 4, 2013 America’s Adopt a Solider had a packing event at Ravensworth Elementary School. At the event we packed 300 care packages to send to the troops overseas. All of the donated supplies that had expired or that would expire in the next two months were given to local shelters.

Families helped build boxes, pack boxes, seal boxes, fill out customs forms, and take boxes to the truck. There were lots of boxes packed and we used up all of the supplies!!

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova, representatives from Congressman Connolly’s Office, recently elected Governor Terry McAuliffe volunteers, local Kiwanis Clubs, and Veterans were there as well as many kids and adults eager to help.

After we had packed for a while it was time for people to speak.  Sgt. Major Baker spoke and said these words, ”Home, community, and moral are the special sauce.”  You can watch the video of his speech.

The America's Adopt a Soldier event was one of 80 Commonwealth Day of Service community service events that day as part of the Inauguration of Virginia’s 72nd Governor Terry McAuliffe.
