Yates Pizza Palace Coming to Generous George's Spot on Duke Street

Signs say to look for the new restaurant to open in the fall.

Signs for a Yates Pizza Palace are up on the old Generous George's pizza restaurant location on Duke Street in Alexandria.

The signs at the property say that the new pizzeria, at 3006 Duke St. in Alexandria, will open in the fall of 2014.

The spot was previously home to lots of birthday parties and post-game pizza celebrations.

When the new restaurant opens, it will have been five years since Generous George's closed its doors. Generous George's was in the spot for 33 years.

A previous restaurant venture, proposed after Generous George's closed, fell through in recent years.

The building, built in 1940, was listed in 2008 as a foreclosure sale with a price of $1.5 million, according to the MRIS real estate database. It was acquired by Branch Banking and Trust in April 2011. The city has assessed the property as worth $780,507 in 2011, according to the city’s real estate database.

The latest information available from the City shows the building is valued at $830,147.
