The Little Gym of Alexandria at Van Dorn Opens

Learning and development center for children focuses on healthy living.

The Little Gym of Alexandria at Van Dorn opened its doors Monday with a mission to build confidence in local children, enrich the lives of local families and promote healthy living. The facility is located at 291 S. Van Dorn St. 

Mayor Bill Euille, several Alexandria City Council members and local families Monday joined in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. 

The Little Gym of Alexandria at Van Dorn "has been working with local businesses and organizations such as Whole Foods,Post Carlyle Square Apartments, Stroller Strides of Arlington/Alexandria and Fitness First to generate awareness of creative and fun ways families can eat healthy and be active," according to a press release.

The Little Gym is collecting worn shoes as part of its "Citizen Kid" program that teaches the value of giving to others. The Little Gym is partnering with Soles4Soules to help children in need overseas. Parents who bring in shoes may receive a discount on their first month of classes. 

There are more than 300 Little Gym locations nationwide, all focused on children from four months to 12 years old. Locally, there is a Little Gym location at 6911 Telegraph Road in addition to this new location on South Van Dorn Street. Little Gyms are also located in Falls Church, Springfield and Fairfax.
