Safeway Closing King Street Location Saturday
The Safeway on King Street near the Bradlee Shopping Center is closing for major renovations. It will reopen in 2014.
If you're going food shopping and looking for cheap groceries, you may want to swing through the Safeway at 3526 King Street.
Saturday is the supermarket's last day in business—and it's offering big discounts on what little is left.
The building will be largely destroyed to make way for an entirely new Safeway grocery store at the same location; the new store will open in 2014. The new store will be bigger, offer more options and include covered parking.

If you're loyal to Safeway, the closest Safeway stores are at 299 S. Van Dorn Street and at Bailey’s Crossroads at 5821 Crossroads Circle in Falls Church.
This is the fourth grocery store to close in Alexandria’s West End in less than six months.

The Giant grocery stores at Bradlee Center and on North Beauregard Street both closed June 6. The Bradlee Center location will be replaced with a Fresh Market store. The North Beauregard Street location remains empty.
Magruder’s on Kenmore Avenue closed back in January, and city officials and shopping center officials are working to bring another grocery store to that location.
