Landmark Gateway Developer Seeking New Retail

Mixed-use development will be located at the corner of South Van Dorn and South Pickett streets.

The developer of the future Landmark Gateway mixed-use development in West End Alexandria is looking for retail establishments to fill 15,000 square feet of new retail space.

“We are marketing that right now,” said developer Sean Caldwell with Mill Creek Residential Trust. “It’s well received, but (there are) no names that we can disclose at this point in time.”

When complete, Landmark Gateway, located at the corner of South Van Dorn and South Pickett streets, will feature three five-story residential buildings housing the retail space and 492 rental units. It will also include an underground parking garage.

The rental units will be studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.

Demolition of three single-story warehouses on the site is complete, Caldwell said. “We’re now moving into our site work, which is basically excavation,” he said. “And the excavation will probably take another 60 days, and then we’ll go into building our garage.”

The underground garage is one level, Caldwell said.

Work is currently progressing on the first phase of the project, which is projected to be complete in the summer of 2014. That phase entails building 360 apartment homes plus the retail space.

Construction is on schedule, Caldwell said.
