Breast Cancer Walk Draws 900 Participants

Alexandria’s 19th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, held Saturday, drew nearly 900 walkers and runners and raised more than $90,000.

Jack Taylor’s Alexandria Toyota/Scion and the Alexandria Fire Department were major donors to the event. For every car sold during October, Taylor will donate $50, and for every “like” the company receives on Facebook, he will donate $15. The Alexandria Fire Department sold pink breast cancer T-shirts, raising more than $7,000.

The money raised from the walk and related activities benefits the Alexandria Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Fund, which pays for mammograms and other diagnostic screenings for Alexandria women who are not adequately insured and could not otherwise obtain this necessary medical care. To date, the fund has helped more than 7,000 women since 1994.
