Virginia Sales Tax Holiday: Ready to Buy Your School Supplies?

Shoes, backpacks and many other items can be purchased tax-free during Virginia's latest tax-free holiday initiative.

Do you plan to take advantage of Virginia’s sales tax holiday on school supplies and clothing starting Friday?

From Aug. 1 through Aug. 4, purchases of certain school supplies, clothing and footwear are exempt from Virginia’s sales tax.

Each eligible school supply item must be priced at $20 or less, and each eligible article of clothing and footwear must be priced at $100 or less.

In Alexandria, some students going to schools on a non-traditional calendar – such as Mount Vernon Community School and Samuel Tucker Elementary – start school Aug. 1, making the sales-tax holiday very timely.
