You can make a difference in a senior’s life, volunteers are needed to visit seniors once a week for about an hour. Training is provided.

Master Food Volunteers    Alexandria Childhood Obesity Action Network

Virginia Cooperative Extension is looking for qualified applicants to become Master Food Volunteers. Volunteers receive 24 hours of training covering basic nutrition, meal planning, and cooking techniques. Training begins March 1. Volunteers commit to 30 hours of volunteer service at health fair displays, food demonstrations at farmers’ markets, etc., within one year of training.

T.C. Williams International Network    In Classroom Tutors

Volunteers are needed to assist students/language learners during their classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to become proficient in English with the subject matter. Shifts are available, between 8:35 am and 3:15 pm. 21 and older. Background check will be conducted by the school.

Volunteer Alexandria Community Service Day Coordinators and Fundraisers Needed

Spring for Alexandria 2013 involves hundreds of volunteers who will join together on Friday, May 3 to provide community services at dozens of nonprofits throughout the city. Volunteers are needed to help us secure donations from stores, restaurants, etc. to give out as prizes.  Site coordinators are needed to assist with project development and overseeing 3-5 sites the day of the event.

Sunday, Feb. 17  George Washington Classic 10-K Race

Headquarters is the Atrium at the U. S. Patent & Trademark Office (enter from Eisenhower Avenue). Volunteers are needed from 6 to 11 a.m. with registration, distribution of food, water stops, and route marshaling.

Sunday, Feb. 17    Revolutionary War Reenactment at Fort Ward Park

4301 West Braddock Road, Alexandria 22304. Volunteers are needed from 1 to 3 p.m. to perform crowd control for the skirmish between Colonial and Red Coat reenactment units.

Monday, Feb. 18   George Washington Birthday Parade

Meet at the American Legion Club Room (lower level) at 400 Cameron Street, Alexandria 22314. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for set up and parade marshaling. Training is on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Club Room.
