N. Pickett Street Closed Following Water Main Break
Water has been turned off at Polk Elementary School, but school will remain open.
The water has been turned off at James K. Polk Elementary School and dozens of neighborhood homes following a water main break on N. Pickett Street between Polk and Taney avenues, according to the City of Alexandria.
N. Pickett Street is closed in both directions. A repairman at the scene said the break was "borderline big" and repairs may not be completed until after 3 p.m.
Crews were breaking into the pavement by 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.

A Tweet from Alexandria City Public Schools said, "Water off at Polk ES during water main repair. School will remain in session. Lunch will be served as usual. More information: 703-824-6635."
