Mental Health Discussions Offered at Beatley Library

A series of free presentations addressing mental health issues at home and in the workplace will be offered at Beatley Library in October.

The series is being offered in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Community Mental Health Act. The events are sponsored by the Department of Community and Human Services, the Alexandria Library, Friends of the Alexandria Mental Health Center and Alexandria’s Mental Health Hope Campaign.

The series runs through Sunday, Oct. 6 through Thursday, Oct. 10, in the large meeting room of the Beatley Central Library, 5005 Duke St., Alexandria.

The series begins with a discussion, "Community Conversation: Creating Partnerships to Support Recovery." Other topics to be covered are "Recognizing and Addressing Mental Health Concerns in the Workplace," "An Interactive Workshop: Youth Mental Illness and Risky Behavior,” "Helping Older Adults Stay Mentally Strong and Resilient," "Teaching Pre-School Children Confidence and Resilience," a special book and author presentation; and a screening of the documentary film, "Bully."
