Lanes Closed Near Mark Center, Express Lanes Construction and More

Virginia Megaprojects is closing certain lanes this week in our area. Here's what you need to know the week of Feb. 17 - 23.

INTERSTATE 95
  • SINGLE TOTAL TEMPORARY CLOSURE ON I-95 SOUTH near Telegraph Rd. overpass is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday nights for a crane movement as a part of the 95 Express Lanes Project. Details below.
  • NIGHTTIME FULL ROAD CLOSURES of the I-95/395 reversible HOV lanes from Duke Street to Dumfries Road are scheduled next week Monday through Friday nights. During night time construction hours motorists will be able to access the I-395 HOV lanes north to Washington, D.C. at Seminary Road and Shirlington. All HOV lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. More details below.
I-495 EXPRESS LANES PROJECT Nighttime work - Closures Sunday - Thursday nights occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Friday and Saturday night closures will occur 9:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • I-495 north to Exit 49B, I-66 east - Ramp closed Sunday – Friday night for punch list work. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 49A, I-66 west, take Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 east.
  • I-66 west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Sunday – Friday nights for punch list work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-66 east to I-495 south.  
  • I-495 west/south (Inner Loop) at Exit 173, Van Dorn St. - Three lanes closed Sunday - Friday nights for sign work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 Express Lanes north and south between the Dulles Toll Rd. and Braddock Rd. - Single lane closed Monday - Friday nights for punch list work.
I-95 EXPRESS LANES PROJECT Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.
  • I-95 reversible HOV lanes from Dumfries Rd. (Route 234) to Duke St. - Road closed Monday - Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday night from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. for barrier work and conduit installation. Traffic will be directed to use the general purpose lanes.
  • I-395 north and south between I-495 and Exit 4, Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday nights for survey, barrier, drilling and drainage work.
  • I-95 south at Telegraph Rd. - Intermittent full road closure of up to 30 minutes Wednesday and Thursday nights for crane movement.
  • I-495 north and south between Exit 54, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) to Exit 174, Eisenhower Connector Rd. - Mobile single lane closed Monday - Thursday nights for survey work.
Daytime work - Closures occur Monday - Thursday between 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted.
  • I-95/395 reversible HOV lanes between I-495 and Dumfries Rd. (Route 234) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for excavation, ground work and paving.
  • I-395 north and south between I-495 and Exit 4, Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for clearing.
  • Jefferson Davis Hwy. (Route 1) between Telegraph Rd. and Russell Rd. - Right lane closed Monday - Friday for detour sign installation.
  • Russell Rd. east and west from Telegraph Rd. to Purvis Rd. - Right lane closed Monday - Friday for detour sign installation and ground work.
  • Telegraph Rd. from Russell Rd. to Midway Rd. - Single lane closed Monday - Friday nights for detour sign installation. Flagger will be onsite to direct traffic.
BRAC/MARK CENTER PROJECT Nighttime work - Closures Monday - Thursday nights occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.  and unless otherwise noted. Friday 9:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) west between I-395 and Mark Center Ave. - Left lane and left turn lane closed Sunday - Thursday nights for storm drain work. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a left on N. Beauregard St., left on Mark Center Dr. and follow signs to Mark Center Ave.
Daytime work - Closures occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday - Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) west between I-395 and Mark Center Ave. - Left lane and left turn lane closed Monday - Thursday for concrete and paving work. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a left on N. Beauregard St., left on Mark Center Dr. and follow signs to Mark Center Ave.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) west between N. Van Dorn St. and I-395 - Right lane closed Monday - Friday for median realignment.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) east from N. Beauregard St. to I-395 - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for sign installation.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) east ramp to I-395 south - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for sign installation.  N. Beauregard St. north and south from Mark Center Dr. and Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for excavation.
