$1 Million Lottery Tickets Sold in Arlington, Mount Vernon

Someone in Arlington won with Powerball, and Mount Vernon saw a $1 million Mega Millions winner.

While no one in the city of Alexandria lucked out with a winning Powerball ticket this go-around, a $1 million ticket was sold in Arlington.

The day before, a $1 million Mega Millions ticket was sold at Safeway, 7451 Mount Vernon Square, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County, said Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty.

“No one really noticed because everyone was focused on Powerball,” Hagerty said. That ticket has not yet been claimed.

The winning Arlington ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven at 5267 Lee Highway.

The winning tickets of the more than $500 million jackpot were sold in Missouri and Arizona. Hagerty told Patch there were also $1 million tickets sold in Richmond, Daleville and Harrisonburg.

However, some Alexandria residents have found small fortunes with recent lottery drawings. Mahlet Bogale of Alexandria won $312,000 in November in the Virginia Lottery’s Win for Life game. Tiburcio Cruz Perla of Alexandria won $100,000 in the “Grills Gone Wild” game in October, and in July Myrtle Blecke of Alexandria won $100,000 in “The Money Game.”

Hagerty said between Oct. 3 and Nov. 28, Virginia raised $13.3 million in profit from the sale of lottery tickets. By law, that money must go to K-12 education.

If you still haven’t checked your Powerball tickets, the winning numbers are: 5 16 22 23 29 and the Powerball number was 6.
