Warm, Sunny October Weather Continues This Week

High pressure system keeps warm temperatures and sunny skies in place this week.

October has been a pretty nice month weather-wise, with warm days, cool nights and plenty of sunshine.

That pattern will continue throughout this week, as temperatures will continue to reach the 70s during the days and drop into the 50s during the nights.

That's still a bit warmer than historically average temperatures for this time of year — our high temperatures are usually in the mid- to upper-60s at this time, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday will be the coolest day of the week, with a high of 72 degrees under sunny skies. Monday night will also be the coolest, with a low of 51. Temperatures may be slightly cooler to the north and west, local forecasters predict.

Temperatures will warm up Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the upper 70s under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. There's a slight chance we could hit 80 on Wednesday.

The forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-70s Thursday and Friday with sun.

This weather pattern is largely thanks to a high pressure system sitting over the Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast, according to The Capital Weather Gang

Clouds may increase over the weekend and temperatures may cool slightly as that high pressure weather pattern shifts.

Distant early warning for Halloween: Halloween is Wednesday, Oct. 31. There could be rain and cooler temperatures in the forecast on Monday and Tuesday of that week, but it's too early to really tell what Halloween itself will bring. You may want to make sure your kids' costumes include an umbrella, just in case.
