Construction has officially started on the mixed-use development at the corner of South Van Dorn and South Pickett streets.

Crews started to demolish the first of three warehouses on the site today.

The six-acre development will include close to 500 rental units in three buildings, 15,000 feet of retail space and an underground parking garage.

The development will be across South Van Dorn Street from the TD Bank, and just north of the shopping center that includes Jerry's Subs and Pizza.
