Police ID Fatal Crash Victim

Robert C. Portelle, 55, was an Alexandria resident.

Alexandria police have identified the pedestrian killed in a crash Friday morning as Robert C. Portelle, 55, of Alexandria.

Crash reconstruction investigators believe that Portelle may have been struck by a second vehicle. Anyone who might have witnessed the crash or who has additional information about this case is asked to call the Alexandria Police Department at 703-746-4444.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. Friday on Braddock Road between North Hampton Drive and Beauregard Street. Portelle was walking in the roadway but was not in a crosswalk, said police spokesman Jody Donaldson. The vehicle then crashed into a tree in the median.

The driver did not appear to be at fault, Donaldson said. He was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
