UPDATED: Fire at West End Apartment Quickly Extinguished
No injuries were reported.
UPDATE (4:05 P.M.): A fire that damaged a West End apartment Monday began in the kitchen area and caused approximately $20,000 in damage, said Robert Rodriguez, chief fire marshal and community services officer.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Rodriguez said. No one was in the apartment at the time, and two adults and one child living there were displaced and will be relocated, he said.
ORIGINAL STORY: City of Alexandria firefighters are continuing to investigate a Monday morning fire at a West End apartment.
No one was injured in the fire at 515 N. Armistead St., at Saxony Square apartments, said Robert Rodriguez, chief fire marshal and community services officer. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 11:25 a.m.
“The first arriving units reported light smoke showing,” Rodriguez said. “ … Firefighters were able to get in and extinguish the fire in a second-floor apartment rather quickly.”
The investigation into the fire is ongoing, and Rodriguez could not immediately say where in the apartment the fire occurred or what the cause may have been. It did not spread to any adjacent apartments.
Because of the location’s close proximity to Arlington and Fairfax counties, fire units from those jurisdictions were called to the scene and assisted Alexandria firefighters, Rodriguez said.
