Detention Officers ‘Spring” for Alexandria

Team cleaned up near Hammond Middle School.

The Alexandria Sheriff's Office’s ‘Helping Hands’ team cleaned up the field and woods behind Francis C. Hammond Middle School on a citywide day of service Friday.

In its sixth year, Spring for Alexandria offers opportunities for residents to become involved in volunteer efforts. ACT for Alexandria, Volunteer Alexandria, the Alexandria Jaycees and the City of Alexandria co-hosted the three-day celebration of giving and service throughout the city Thursday through Saturday.

On Friday, Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and more than 20 staff members collected trash, branches and other debris as part of Spring for Alexandria. When they were done at Hammond, the team collected several bags of trash along the path and railroad overpass in Rosemont.

Other major Spring for Alexandria events included the Generations of Giving Gala, the Business Philanthropy Summit, Community Service Day, Market Square Party, Alexandria Gives and “Lemonaide” Day.
