The Big Lots on Alexandria’s West End is now open for business at the corner of Stevenson Avenue and South Walker Street.
The bargain closeout store officially opened Thursday in the building that formerly housed Best Buy, which closed last year as part of a corporate restructuring. The store’s address is 5901 Stevenson Ave., near Landmark Mall.
The store carries items including home furnishings, cookware, kitchen items, bedding, furniture, cleaning supplies, pet items and outdoor furnishings. The Alexandria store also carries seasonal items, food and snacks, toys, cards and cleaning supplies.
The store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
According to the company, Big Lots stores offer merchandise that typically sells for 20 to 40 percent less than discount stores and up to 70 percent below traditional retailers.
The store will hold a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony March 1. As part of the celebration, Big Lots will make a $1,500 donation to Samuel Tucker Elementary School.

I LOVE Big Lots. I hope the business stays viable in that location as not many stores [seem to last] in that spot. Mostly, Big Lots serve as a close out location and yes, you can find name brand items for a deep discount if you have the patience to filter through the stock. Very nice re: the donation to Samuel Tucker Elementary School.
